An extensive 60-day voyage around Australia has been cancelled following the death of an older female passenger who was abandoned by the vessel on a remote tropical isle.

Suzanne Rees had been hiking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but parted ways from the group for a pause. The liner sailed away leaving her and returned later that day after the ship staff discovered the passenger was not present.

A large-scale hunt found her body the next day.

Investigative bodies are examining the incident, alongside investigators and the official investigator.

The CEO of the cruise operator said that passengers and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the continuation of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and prior engine troubles".

In a statement, he added that travelers would be provided a complete reimbursement, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the homeward trips of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Authorities also released an revised communication, and said they had "provided a directive to the Master" preventing any further travelers from getting on the liner.

The official said that they would inspect the ship in the Australian city upon its coming back.

The liner initially left the Australian port on the 24th of October, and was merely two days into the voyage at the point of the 80-year-old's demise. The remote island was the opening port on the itinerary.

Passengers on board - who usually pay large sums of currency to join the cruise - were ferried there for a day trip with the choice of hiking or snorkeling.

The daughter of the elderly passenger said that her family was "shocked and saddened that the vessel left the location after an organised tour without my parent".

In her statement, she described her mother as an "active elderly person" who was a member of a hiking club.

"According to scant facts we have been informed, it appears that there was a failure of attention and ordinary reasoning," she stated.

She further stated that she wished the inquiry would be able to identify what "the operator should have done that might have protected Mother's existence".

"Based on information from the police that it was a very hot day, and she fell ill on the hill climb," she explained.

"They requested her to go back, alone. Then the vessel left, reportedly without doing a passenger count.

"At some stage in that sequence, or shortly after, she succumbed, without company."

Organization Response

Through an announcement, the CEO confirmed that the operator was "working closely with investigators to aid their inquiry".

He said that the firm was "deeply sorry that this has transpired" and had provided its full support to the loved ones.

Maritime Business Procedures

The ship accommodates up to a hundred twenty passengers with forty-six staff, according to company details. It was specifically designed to enter isolated locations of the nation's coastline and is fitted with "tenders" - minor craft used to take individuals on day excursions.

Events of this nature are uncommon, and cruise ships have protocols to track which passengers are getting on or leaving, according to travel authorities.
